Have a Question? Contact me: tcurtis@scholarcharter.org ## Mathematics is truly one of the few things in life that every question has, presumably, a correct answer.

In fifth grade, our focus is mainly working with place value, decimals, adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing of fractions, as well as basic conversions.

### Primary Focus Groups

• Chapter 1: Place Value
• Chapter 2: Multiply Whole Numbers
• Chapter 3: Divide by a One-Digit Divisor
• Chapter 4: Divide by a Two-Digit Divisor
• Chapter 5: Add and Subtract Decimals
• Chapter 6: Multiply and Divide Decimals
• Chapter 7: Expressions and Patterns
• Chapter 8: Fractions and Decimals
• Chapter 9: Add and Subtract Fractions
• Chapter 10: Multiply and Divide Fractions
• Chapter 11: Measurement
• Chapter 12: Geometry

### Understanding must be built upon understanding:

I am a firm believer that in math, like many other things in life, we should not move onto harder concepts until we have mastered the basics.  This year we will be working on twelve different chapters.

The Goal: SHOW MASTERY IN EACH CONCEPT IN TWO DIFFERENT WAYS.

(Normal philosophy - If you know it well enough to teach it, you are probably pretty well off.)
